Year 1

'Hands on Science'

Year 1 and 2 welcomed Helen from 'Hands On Science' today.

They enjoyed a day of investigating flight including making kites, rockets and gliders.

This term we have learnt all about humans and other animals.

We learnt about our 5 senses. We loved matching our smell pots to the products and tasting sweet, sour, salty and bitter food!

We have begun to group animals into mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds and fish and have also thought about what animals eat- using words such as carnivore, herbivore and omnivore.

After half term our topic was China. We enjoyed making spring rolls. As a team we chopped, peeled and grated the vegetables, rolled out filo pastry and with a little help, cooked them in the oven! Yummy!

We had a visit from the fire crew and learnt all about staying safe in the event of a fire.

We loved trying on fire fighter outfits, looking inside the fire engine and using the hose.
