Years 1 and 2 had a wonderful time at Arundel Castle and Gardens learning all about its rich history over the last 950 years. They were able to dress up, handle some artefacts and had an extensive walking tour around the castle and its beautiful grounds. A fantastic experience was had by all children and teachers.
Rodrigo de Triana came to the Year 1 classroom to collect his map that we had found! He was one of the crew on Christopher Columbus’s ship called the ‘Pinta’. He told us all about life on board the ship and the long journey they had taken to discover new lands. We can’t wait to find out more about what it was like to be an explorer!
Year 1 had a great time meeting musicians from Ensemble 360! We went to their performance of Sir Scallywag and the Battle for Stinky Bottom, based on a book written by Giles Andreae and illustrated by Korky Paul.
Ensemble 360 played background music while narrator Polly Ives read the story and sang songs. We had a great time singing along with the songs and joining in with the actions!
Congratulations to our Pupil of the Term
and Star Award Winners
Our topic this half term has been China. We have had great fun learning all about Chinese traditions. We designed and made our own Chinese dragon. Watch the clip to see our wonderful dragon dance!
We made some wonderful Chinese lanterns!
We had great fun tasting different dishes from China. We found out which region of China each dish came from.
In our maths work we found some dragon footsteps! We used different objects to measure and compare their lengths. We learnt to use measurement words such as longer, shorter and equal and estimate.
In Science we have been learning all about Light and Dark. We discovered what things were light sources and sorted materials that reflected light. Bear wanted to go out on his bike at night so we made him a reflective strip to wear to keep him safe. We tested to see if the strips worked in our dark den!
