26th September 2017
As you are aware, it has long been the vision of the Catholic Diocese of Portsmouth that all Catholic schools in the diocese would join together to form MATs (Multi-Academy Trusts). Schools had been working towards this and in the letter of 26th June, you were updated with the current information that was available on the plans for St John’s – that we would be part of the Edith Stein MAT and were awaiting a date for conversion.
However, yesterday I received notification that the Catholic Diocese of Portsmouth had made a decision to put their plans for Multi Academy Trusts on hold; recognising that the government had withdrawn its bill to force schools to become academies as well as acknowledging the additional financial burden that schools would be under as part of a MAT.
The governors will be meeting in the next few weeks to examine any implications that this decision will have for St John’s but I would like to reassure you that the school is in good hands and will continue to thrive as a Voluntary Aided Catholic school with your children’s education and well-being at the heart of everything we do.
