Year 1 and 2 have been busy with their topic homework this term writing their very own poems inspired by Victorian poets.
The classes are currently making a book of all the poems that the children will be able to access in our school library.
Year 1 had a great time learning about Sikhism with their families.
Year 1 had a wonderful time at the Cathedral for their last class liturgy of the year. They read, listened, danced and sang amazingly.
Year 1 and 2 had a wonderful time at Marwell Zoo, learning all about the different habitats of African wildlife. The sun was shining and fortunately, most of the animals came out to play.
Year One had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon learning all about Holy Week.
As part of our African topic, we had an African Drama Workshop with Mrs. Amey.
We learnt to move and behave like African animals and birds. We also re-enacted the story of Handa’s Surprise.
We have been learning all about the location of Kenya and the Masai people. We designed and painted our own patterned headdresses.
Year 1 have been learning the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and had great fun planting their own beans.We have discussed how we need to look after them and will be measuring them very soon.
In our maths lessons we are starting to learn about position and direction. We thought carefully about the different positional language we could use when hiding 'Jack' in a variety of places in the classroom.
Year 1 and 2 had a great time during their Firework and Guy Fawkes themed topic morning this term. They spent time dancing, improving their design and technology skills and doing some wonderful observational drawing.
Year 1 had their termly liturgy at the Cathedral and performed some wonderful drama during the Gospel reading.
They also used their big singing voices to praise God.
Internet safety and Logging on
In preparation for using the laptops this half term, the children learnt how to log on and where to go to open the internet explorer and word. They really enjoyed the session and lots to say about why we need passwords and what it means to have a password.
Year 1 has been having some much deserved choosing time and loving it after all their hard work this half term!
Year 1 had a great day at school reciting poetry discussing how to look after God’s world, drawing and colouring pictures, making a moveable skeleton, building a lego house for a small pet, programming on the ipads and helping one another to organise a timeline of the Great Fire of London.

WALT: identify how we benefit from everything God has created
Our Creation Walk!
The children walked around the school grounds making observations about all of the things our God has created. We talked about air and water, creatures of the earth and food we can grow. The children had a wonderful lesson and enjoyed some fresh air.

The parents in Year 1 came to spend the afternoon with the children to find out what they have learnt about Portsmouth.
We made our very own Spinnaker Towers and lighthouses in the Portsmouth colours.

Year One took part in Drama workshop all about the Great Fire of London with Drama for Schools.
They pretended to be fire spreading all across London, found out lots of facts and tried on some awesome costumes!
